国際共修研修ツアー in 北木島、実施

12月20日に、「ソーシャルインパクト創出のための多文化共修キャンパス形成支援事業」に関連して、国際共修授業（英語）の課外活動「日帰り研修ツアーin 北木島」を実施しました。

本研修には、留学生と日本人学生あわせて15名、教員4名が参加しました。日本遺産に認定されている北木島の石切り場、旧映画館、資料館など訪問・見学し、瀬戸内海に浮かぶ笠岡諸島の豊かな自然を体感するとともに、名人による石切り歌の実演を通して、北木島の石産業が育んできた文化や歴史に触れることができました。

また、島内ガイドの方や鶴田石材のスタッフの方から、石産業の現状、島コミュニティや暮らし、急速に進む過疎などの課題について解説を受け、質疑応答を通して北木島について多面的に学ぶとともに、留学生や英語系教員とのディスカッションを通して、多様な価値観や視点を共有し、多文化社会や自然との持続可能な共生について考えを深める貴重な機会となりました。

研修後アンケートでは、研修参加前と比べて、異なる文化背景を持つ人とのコミュニケーションに対し、「少し自信がついた」または「自信がついた」と回答した学生が約７割にのぼりました。日本人学生からは、「間違っても、とりあえずしゃべってみることが大事だと感じた」「学外で歩きながらリクラックスした状態で同じ目的に向かって行動できたことで、より深く交流できた」といった声も寄せられ、国際共修研修を無事終了することができました。

International Collaborative Learning in Kitagi island

On December 20, a one-day field study tour to Kitagi Island was held as an extracurricular activity for an intercultural collaborative learning course in English, as part of “Multicultural Campus Project Toward Social Impact (大学の国際化によるソーシャルインパクト創出支援事業)”

The program brought together 15 students—both international and Japanese—along with four faculty members. Participants visited and explored several sites designated as part of Japan’s cultural heritage, including historic stone quarries, a former cinema, and a local museum. While experiencing the rich natural environment of the Kasaoka Islands in the Seto Inland Sea, students also enjoyed a live performance of traditional stone-cutting songs by local singer, gaining insight into the culture and history shaped by Kitagi Island’s stone industry.

In addition, local guides and staff from Tsuruta Stone Co. shared firsthand perspectives on the current state of the stone industry, island life and community, and pressing challenges such as rapid depopulation. Through active question-and-answer sessions, participants developed a multifaceted understanding of the island and its realities.

The program concluded with small group discussions and walk, where participants exchanged diverse perspectives and reflected on sustainable coexistence with nature and across cultures. The field study provided a valuable opportunity for experiential learning and deeper intercultural engagement beyond the classroom.

In the post-program survey, approximately 70% of the students reported that they felt “slightly more confident” or “more confident” in communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds compared to before the program. Japanese students also shared comments such as, “I realized that it is important to try speaking up, even if you make mistakes,” and “Working toward a common goal outside the classroom allowed us to build deeper connections.” With these outcomes, the international collaborative learning program was successfully completed.
